After Nikki Parquette graduated from Illinois College with Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology, she saw a news report on the Afghanistan War that stated it was the first time since the Vietnam War that U.S. battlefield deaths were on the rise. The cause? U.S. Soldiers were dying on the battlefield because there were not enough combat medics providing care to Soldiers at the time of injury. THERE WAS NO ACCESS TO CARE. Knowing she could increase that access, she enlisted in the U.S. Army as a combat medic and provided much needed support to our troops.
Once she was in the medical system, she realized that too many sick and hurting people were receiving inferior and impersonal care. THERE WAS NO CLEAR PATH TO HEALTH. So, she earned a Master’s Degree through the Interservice Physician Assistant Program with the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Physician Assistant Studies and years later, opened Spear Direct Care. Through Spear, she can serve her community the best way she knows how; by guiding people to a healthier life through easy access to superior healthcare.
