Steve Baker, MD
Steve Baker MD, has served as a clinical assistant professor of family medicine with the University of Washington, teaching family medicine residents in Vancouver since 2001. He has also been medical director of New Heights Clinic, a faith based clinic for patients with no health insurance who have difficulty paying for medical care, since its founding in 1996. In addition, he partnered for 15 years with Dr. Julius Surjadi, taking teams for 1-3 trips a year to Papua, Indonesia, to help Dr. Surjadi set up a successful training program for tribal church workers to bring basic health- care to remote, untouched tribes.
Dr. Baker went to medical school at the University of Miami in Florida, served as a medical officer on the USS New Jersey for 2 years, worked as a battalion surgeon with the US Marines for Desert Shield/Storm in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, then completed his family medicine training at Providence St Peter Medical Center in Olympia, Washington. In addition to certification by the American Board of Family Medicine, he also has a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
